Travel and Pregnancy
Travel in pregnancy is completely safe and sometimes unavoidable, if you keep in mind the following precautions:
- You are having a normal pregnancy
- Drink to thirst and eat to comfort
- Dress for the trip
- Stay comfortable and move frequently
- Air Travel
- Avoid air travel in the last few weeks of pregnancy, most airlines enforce this rule
- Avoid nonpressurized high altitude flights
- Avoid the smoking sections, if allowed on your flights
- Car Travel
- Always wear your seat belt, with the bottom belt across your hips, not over your abdomen
- Stop and stretch or go to the bathroom at least every two hours
- Take snacks
- Take pillows
- Carry your prenatal record from your practioner (particularly around your due date)
- Check with your practioner before taking any vaccinations or medications
- Enjoy yourself!
